travel europe france normandy mont saint michel

The famous part of Mont-Saint-Michel is a tidal island off France's northwestern coast at the mouth of the Couesnon River.
My son Wyatt and I, along with friend Larry Ehmke, visited Mont Saint-Michel in 1999 on a five week trip around Europe.
We walked all the way to the Monastery at the top pushing Larry in a wheelchair along a steep winding street with many steps.
The crowds were stupendous... it is said to be the biggest tourist attraction in France.
The street to the top is lined with seemingly endless souvenir shops.
As a whole, Mont-Saint-Michel is imposing and a must see... in parts, it is trashy-commercial and crowded.
Still, it is an amazing place and I'm glad we visited...
